Jean Hoerni.
He invented the planar process. Instead of germanium, transistors were created out of silicon because of Hoerni’s invention. This allowed Fairchild Semiconductor to produce the 1st integrated circuit. Fairchild started a technological revolution, based on Jean Hoerni’s invention. Jean was one of the Traitorous Eight. Computers used to take up a lot of space, but because of Hoerni’s invention, we now have cell phones and smaller things to use. He’s the reason I’m able to use the computer I’m using now, and not have the computer be huge because it needs memory to store things, compared to a chip.
He made a huge impact on my own personal life, because now I don’t have to have a huge computer to use. He invented a chip that can store more information than before, yet have it smaller than before as well. I can take my cell phone on the go, same with my laptop. If he wouldn’t have invented the helpful chip, we would have huge computers and not have been able to store as much information. In conclusion, he made the computers a lot smaller, and allowed it to have more information. I’m so glad Hoerni invented the planar process.
